Kicking Off Summer With Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day is almost here - a day for us to remember and commemorate those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Once Memorial Day rolls around, summer is officially kicked off. You can almost smell the hot dogs cooking on the grill and the sunscreen on your skin just thinking about it!

Many people spend Memorial Day getting together for the long weekend and enjoying time spent outside. For us up in Strawberry, the weather couldn't be more perfect to do just that. There are also lots of events and holiday specials around town for all to enjoy. We have suggestions for all kinds of holiday travelers this weekend - check out our ideas below!

Family Weekend:

If you are traveling with the whole family, you've got to find activities that keep the kids interested and you entertained as well! To fuel up for a day full of activities, stop by the newly re-opened Pine Deli (now Pine Provisions) for some sandwiches and cannolis for dessert - YUM! Next, visit the Tonto Natural Bridge State Park to explore the beautiful natural travertine bridge and hike around the property to explore the natural beauty of the high desert. For a sweet treat after a busy afternoon, stop into Pine Creek Fudge and Espresso for ice cream cookie sandwiches! The next morning, grab a book from the little free library in front of the Inn and read with your little ones on the front porch swing. For the parents, Dan at Windmill Coffee will fix you up a delicious morning beverage as you enjoy the cool morning weather! Before the morning is through, grab an all you can eat pancake breakfast at Bandit's, right next door from the Inn (Saturday 5/29 from 8-10am). The Pine Memorial Day Arts & Crafts Festival would be another great event for the family (Saturday 8-5pm, Sunday 8-4pm).

Couples Getaway:

As you head into town, stop off at some of the local spots like Fancy Finds & Moose Mountain and discover all of the fun souvenirs to bring home with you! Once you've shopped 'til you've dropped, hit the trail for a leisurely hike together at the Pine Loop Trailhead, just a block away from the Inn! For dinner in town, check out the dinner specials at The Weekender in Strawberry (formerly The Bear Restaurant). In the morning, take a drive to Randall House in Pine for a delicious brunch and stop by Windmill Coffee for an afternoon ginger fizz and serve up some friendly competition playing yard games. If live music is your thing, be sure to go to Pinewood Tavern for delicious food and drinks with live music (Saturday 5/29 from 6-9pm)!

Adventurers:

For those of you looking for the ultimate adventure right as you get into town, head to Old County Inn Friday and Saturday nights for live music, great food, and even more fun! Saturday morning, pick up a picnic meal from THAT Brewery in collaboration with @azwomeninfood and head to Fossil Creek for the day (make sure to get your permit beforehand!) After your fun in the sun, stop into the Pine Strawberry Farmer's Market for fresh local finds and souvenirs to take home with you!

Whatever you decide to do up in Strawberry for the long weekend, we know you will have the sweetest time. Be sure to tag us on social media with photos of your fun! (Tag @thestrawberryinn)
