It's a (full) Strawberry Moon!

If you’re fascinated by the night sky like we are, you’ll want to pay extra close attention to the next full moon. As luck would have it, it will be a “Strawberry moon!” Keep reading to learn more about what exactly a Strawberry moon is, when it will happen, and where to go to have the best view.

There is some misinformation floating around that says a Strawberry moon means the moon is a pink or reddish color. Not true! The term “Strawberry Moon” comes from Algonquin tribes to describe the harvest cycle specific to the ripening of berries. It is the first full moon of June each year, and usually signifies the start of summer.

This year, the Strawberry Moon will be Friday, June 21st around 9pm. It might seem like a long way off still, but we’re actually already booking up for that date!

Without the effects of light pollution, you’ll have a crystal-clear view of the moon alongside all of the amazing constellations. You don’t need a telescope, but certainly bring one if you want to see more detail. You’re welcome to moon gaze from any of the communal spaces around the hotel property. Another great spot that will give you a clear view is Green Valley Park in Payson. Let’s all cross our fingers and toes that there is no cloud cover!
